I've never heard of Planet Fitness...I did look into Lifetime Fitness once (is there one near you?) and you can get membership at any age. If you're 12 and under, you can have open gym (basketball court, soccer field, volleyball court, rock climbing wall, pool, that type of thing) and use equipment with adult supervision (no free weights), 13 - 17 can use all equipment (except for free weights) without adult supervision necessary, and 18+ can just do whatever they want. I don't know if this is standard for all gyms (I didn't end up staying with Lifetime Fitness for more than a two-week "trial" and haven't tried any gyms yet since)...I know that it's limited for a 13/14 year-old to a lot less gyms than adults, but there are definitely gyms out there who let younger people work out.
