Issues at 5 weeks pregnant with low hormone levels and no visible gestational sac on ultrasound... worried.?

I'm quite certain that I'm in the middle of my fifth week of my pregnancy. I was experiencing some dark brown spotting, and insisted on an appointment even though my doctor wasn't concerned. During the ultrasound, there was no visible gestational sac. Also, my doctor said there is supposed to be a cyst on my ovary at this stage, and there wasn't. I had never heard that before- anyone? They drew blood and said my pg hormone level was low and prescribed me progesterone.

The doctor does not answer my questions directly, and I'm very worried. This is my first pregnancy, and I just need some honest answers and numbers- I don't know if I should keep my hopes up for this baby. I already love the little thing, and this has been so hard on me. Has anyone else experienced any of these issues? How did it turn out? I would greatly appreciate any information you could share with me. Thanks so much.

First of all hun just take a deep breath and relax. I have also just been through the same exact things that you are now. I am now 6 weeks &5 days. I too had an ultrasound at 5 weeks&3 days and no gestational sac was seen, they did the blood work and my progesterone levels were low so they prescribed me some medicine. And of course like you my doctor was not very informative about anything or any questions I asked. So I switched doctors and went to the office yesterday, she was very informative about everything and did a vaginal ultrasound and the sac was seen but no baby so I have to go back in a week and they will do another ultrasound and she said by then that the baby should be visible as well as a small heartbeat. She said the progesterone meds are just temporary until 10 weeks then the baby will be able to make their own.She said that since there is a sac now and there wasn't last week that I am making progress and that she believes everything will be fine and that I am just very early in my pregnancy that I may have ovulated late in the month. I am praying for the best for you and I know exactly how you feel.

My doctor told me that my level had to be at 1000 be4 it showed anything on a ultrasound. If your levels are not 1000 yet it will not show. mine didnt show till about 5weeks and 4 days. Then we had a hard time finding a heartbeat, but we got one after about 4 different ultrasounds

I can't tell you for sure, but I can tell you my own experience. I was just less than 5 weeks pregnant when I got my positive at home pregnancy test. Two days later I started having horrible contraction type feeling in my vagina (sorry if tmi). As my first pregnancy, I was terrified I was miscarrying and rushed to the ER. They got a positive blood test and did an ultrasound that showed no signs at all of a pregnancy! They said it was still early so it may be too small to see, but I thought that I had lost it. At my first obstetrician visit at 12 weeks, after thinking my baby had died for the last 7 weeks, I was told not only did I have a healthy baby on the way but that I had twins!

I later went back to the hospital to pick-up my paperwork and found that I did have a cyst on my ovary, but they didn't tell me anything about it. I think that hospital staff is so overworked that they just don't care to divulge much of anything, even if your having a panic attack about all of it.

If your doctor doesn't answer your questions and isn't available to you, switch docs now when it will be conveneint to do so.
