.Depends on your calorie intake more than on what you eat. A person could lose weight eating only candy bars, if they kept their calories low enough.
Don't go under 1200 cals/day...eat 4 - 6 times a day (the more frequently you eat, the higher your metabolism stays to process the food...and the less chance of getting hungry).
Eat healthy, make sure you're getting plenty of lean protein, fruits and veggies, complex carbs, healthy fats, and lots of water...you can do that without eating only salad (which would get boring pretty quick).
Add an hour of exercise at least 5 days a week to that, and you'll be on your way to fitness and your goal weight.
